Total-body benefits of a healthy smile

How oral health impacts overall health

Beyond enjoying a beautiful smile - your oral health plays a much greater role when it comes to maintaining your overall health.

Why oral health is important

Oral health is not just important for the aesthetics of your smile, but it also plays a critical role in your overall health and well-being. Poor dental health can lead to several health complications and it can affect your body in various ways.
In fact, the connection between oral health and overall health is so strong that many healthcare professionals now recommend regular dental check-ups as part of a comprehensive health plan.

  • Prevent dental issues
  • Avoid gum infection
  • Help protect heart health

How to improve oral health

Good oral hygiene is essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Brushing your teeth twice flossing daily, and regular visits to the dentist help prevent dental problems like cavitiesgum disease and tooth loss.
By taking care of your smile today, you’ll prevent dental issues down the road.

Prevent dental issues

Maintaining good oral hygiene can minimize the risk of common dental problems from cropping up. When plaque and tartar build-up on your teeth, it can lead to tooth decay and infections in the gums.
These problems are not only uncomfortable but can also result in expensive and invasive dental treatments. By taking intentional care of your smile now, you can minimize the risk of needing extensive treatment in the future.

The link between oral health and overall health

According to an article published by Harvard Medical, research shows that oral health issues can be linked to heart disease, diabetes and issues with pregnancy.

This is because bacteria from plaque and gum disease can enter the bloodstream and travel to other parts of the body, causing inflammation and other health issues.

By maintaining positive dental health, combined with a healthy lifestyle, you can achieve a healthier body and mind.¹

Overall health complications associated with oral health

Let’s take a closer look at how your oral health can impact your overall health and wellbeing. Interestingly, having poor oral hygiene can be linked to a variety of health issues. We’ll dig into the details of each below.

Oral health and cardiovascular disease

Poor dental health can lead to gum disease, which can actually be linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes. This is because the bacteria from gum disease can enter the bloodstream, causing inflammation in the blood vessels and increasing the risk of heart problems.

Diabetes and oral health

Patients with diabetes are more prone to gum disease. Additionally, high blood sugar levels can lead to dry mouth, increasing the risk of tooth decay and other oral health problems.

Oral health and other potential complications

Due to its inflammatory response, gum disease has been linked to complications with both pregnancy and Alzheimer’s. This is because when bacteria enters the bloodstream, it can trigger an inflammatory response, increasing the risk of neurological problems. If a pregnant mother has gum disease, the inflammation can impact the baby’s brain development. If a patient is more mature, gum disease could potentially increase the risk of Alzheimer’s.

Common oral health issues

Gum disease

One of the most significant and common health issues associated with poor dental hygiene is gum disease. If left untreated, it can progress to periodontitis and even cause teeth to fall out.

Tooth decay

Additionally, oral health problems like cavities and tooth decay can affect your overall health. If left untreated, these issues can lead to discomfort, difficulty eating, and even malnutrition.

Why Our Patients Love Us

Dr. Patel is amazing. She saved one of my molars when I was told somewhere else it had to be pulled. She did a crown which fit perfectly. I haven’t had any issues with my crown. I often forget I had one done. She is thorough, and makes you feel so comfortable. I never liked going to the dentist but Dr. Patel makes me look forward to seeing her. I live in the south suburbs and she is worth the drive.

I had my dental appointment yesterday and it was my first most extensive consultation of my teeth ever. Yes, it’s uncomfortable meanwhile interesting to know the condition of my oral health. Dentist Reshma explained thoroughly how concerning the issue I have and the gravity of it. On the other hand, the staffs were doing great in welcoming and accommodating customers. Samantha and the other staff displays their job expertise very well.

Everyone that works in this office is very friendly and professional. I first came in after not having dental insurance for a while, and it had been years since my last dentist visit, and they did a consultation visit to see what needed to be done. They made what is normally an unpleasant experience (cavities and crowns) quick and painless.

Forever Dental on Archer is awesome! I’ve had nothing but great encounters with Dr. Patel and all support staff. I recently started treatment with Invisalign braces and the process has been very comfortable and straightforward. If you are looking for a great Dental office, I’d highly recommend Forever Dental.

Very Good service every time I take my kids. Always greeted politely at the front desk. Dr.Reshma Dhake is the best dentist I’ve encountered. It’s always a pleasure going to dentist and greeting Dr. Dhake. Very good service. Very pleased and satisfied. Would highly recommend.

They made me very comfortable and calm before and during my procedure. They work very well together. All my procedures are clearly explained and printed out with costs and co-pays. I am very happy to have found this group of women dedicated to oral health.

Excellent care and service. Dentist is awesome. Staff was great and everyone was really proficient at their responsibilities. Was also in and out for a follow up cbtc scan for future implant surgery. Highly recommend.

They are a great team. Always taking good care of me. My dental health has improved and I don’t mind going to the dentist at all.

Dr. Garrison and her entire team are extremely welcoming and helpful!! They do amazing work and take care of you immediately. Everyone is so friendly! My entire family sees Dr. Garrison and we will all continue to do so!

My mother has been treated with so much respect here, I had to try them out. Mom was right! I love going to the dentist now, they service on time and with the upmost priority to help and care for you. Every one is friendly, patient, and helpful in terms of communicating the in’s and out’s of the insurance offering, etc. I highly recommend. They have an excellent staff. Thank you Forever Dental ?

This location is probably the best dentist I have been to in a long time! Everyone is friendly, professional, considerate, and well educated. I feel safe and welcome every time! Thank you for easing my anxiety at each visit.

Definitely recommend this place for your dental needs. Staff is super friendly, thank you Dr. Upwards and Mayra for explaining all the questions my daughter had on Invisalign!! My daughter is excited to start her Invisalign journey!

I recently visited Forever Dental for my first appointment at the facility , and I couldn’t be more impressed! From the moment I walked in, the office staff, Yessenia and Karla were welcoming and professional, making the check-in process smooth and stress-free, which immediately put me at ease.
Dr. Dhake and the hygienist, Karla, took the time to explain everything in detail, from the x rays, exam process to the treatment plan. They were gentle, thorough, and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I even was offered essential oils -lavender- to help calm my nerves, it helped to relax me and I will use it again next time I visit, I also appreciated how they answered all my questions without making me feel rushed. They were accommodating to my schedule and were able to fit in an X-rays, exam, cleaning and dental work-cavity treatments all in one visit.
This team made the experience of going to the dentist a pleasant one and I feel confident that I’m in great hands here (which hasn’t always been the case at other dentist offices). Now it’s time to make an appointment for my husband, he is long overdue.
If you’re looking for a skilled, caring, and professional dental team, I highly recommend Forever Dental!

This was my first time here, I had a great experience, everyone here is welcoming and help you with a smile on their face . The environment and staff make you feel comfortable and take the nerves away. They do a great job at explaining the procedure and making sure you’re okay. 12/10 recommend!

Our family loves forever dental! It has been our dental home for more than a decade, serving my whole family from cleanings, whitening, and braces.
